This classification is typically for an individual that has been devoted to education in any or all of its forms. The individual may have promoted education, funded education, created new innovative ways of learning or been instrumental in maintaining standards, building educational facilities or lobbying for accessibility, diversity or equality in education. This classification is open to any individual working at any level of the educational system from both private and public sector. Candidates can be from mainstream or specialist education including special needs, vocational education, apprenticeships, training and development, voluntary, home schooling, tutoring and all other areas. This classification is also suitable for those involved in the educational supply chain and those working in the education system in a non-teaching function. The British Citizen Award recognises outstanding individuals that are making a huge difference to the pupils under their care.
